The Texans, who will spend the rest of this season without Deshaun Watson after his ACL injury, lost 20-14 to the Colts Sunday. Houston QB Tom Savage was 19-for-44 in passing, with one TD and just 4.98 yards per attempt. He fully admitted that he “played like crap.” As the 3-5 Texans get to work on playing their way out of the ugly wild-card loss they seemed destined to earn, their quarterback depth chart looks like this: Savage, T.J. Yates, and Matt McGloin, who played one season at Penn State under head coach Bill O’Brien. None of those quarterbacks is very good, and all of them are objectively worse than Colin Kaepernick. Even O’Brien knows the free agent should be in the conversation. Whether Houston actually signs Kaepernick is an entirely different story, of course. Tex…
In one of the most remarkable individual performances in professional soccer history, Southampton’s Sadio Mané managed to score three times on Aston Villa in less than three minutes. It’s still not the English league record, though. [NBCSN] To contact the author of this post, write to [email protected] ( PGP key) or find him on Twitter @bubbaprog. …
Saturday was an outstanding day for college football — particularly if you went to Syracuse, grumble grumble — but it was not so pleasant for Oklahoma fans, who, as this video rather clearly shows, were screwed out of a big road victory against Oregon. It's funny, because one wouldn't think it would be possible for so many calls to be missed on a play as simple as an onsides kick … but there it is, regardless. By the way, Brady Quinn, huh? Nearly a year after he first announced that he’d been diagnosed with multiple sclerosis, Bryan Bickell signed a one-day contract this week to retire as a Chicago Blackhawk. After hosting a retirement press conference yesterday, he got one last chance to head out on the ice tonight, in a special pre-game ceremony that got a standing ovation from fans. Bickell, 31, was drafted by the Blackhawks in 2004 and spent all but one of his 10 NHL seasons with the team. (He played last year for the Hurricanes, after being traded to clear cap space.) He announced his diagnosis with the disease of the central nervous system last November, though he said that he’d first known that something was wrong during the 2015 playoffs, when he was scratched from two games with what was labeled vertigo at th…
data-mm-id=”_1mq1ifyqf”>Is Eli Manning a Hall of Famer? That has been the debate in sports this week. And perhaps many of the debaters are missing one key element in the discussion. Manning is responsible for preventing Tom Brady and Bill Belichick from being the greatest coach-quarterback duo of all-time. That is at least according to one pundit, Mike Francesa. The Pope explains. Listen closely: Mike Francesa says Eli Manning prevented Belichick and Brady from becoming the greatest coach/QB duo ever by beating them twice in the Super Bowl. Mike is still dying on this hill, mainly because Belichick has never acknowledged his existence. pic.twitter.com/oP713AQKDD— Ƒunhouse (@BackAftaThis) September 18, 2019This may sound crazy, but let's stop and think. data-mm-id=”_f2nkts5wd”>Clint Capela has long been seen as the ideal center to put next to James Harden in Mike D'Antoni's offense. He sets solid screens, can catch a lob anywhere in his general direction, and defends the rim well enough on the other end of the floor. The Rockets agreed a few years ago when they signed Capela to a five-year, $90 million extension that kicked in at the beginning of the 2018 season. Things have changed. The Rockets are shopping Capela on the trade market to Eastern Conference teams ahead of Thursday's deadline, as reported by ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski, and reportedly are looking for assets to flip for an "impact wing player." In an ideal world, Houston receives a wing player and a center, and Woj reports a multi-team deal co…
data-mm-id=”_x6lpvbj6i”>Details are emerging on FOX Sports' plans for First Things First. Kevin Wildes will join Nick Wright and Jenna Wolfe for the daily 6:30-9:30 a.m. ET morning show on FS1, The Big Lead has learned from sources with knowledge of the situation. The show will pivot to a loose, free-flowing, conversational format and add a still-to-be-determined fourth talent to the set. When reached by phone, a FOX Sports spokesperson declined to comment. Wildes is close to agreeing to a multi-year contract with FOX Sports. The addition of Wildes is the first move toward the show's second iteration. He will be seen as the energizer, Wolfe as the host, Wright as the strong opinionist, and the network is looking to fill the remaining seat with what will likely be a former at…
data-mm-id=”_6kvrpgc7g”>Joe Burrow is the highest-profile player from LSU's undefeated National Championship team, but he's hardly the only talented member of the Tigers picked in April's NFL Draft. Another first-round selection is feeling a little disrespected right now. After being the fifth wide receiver off the board (at No. 22), Vikings rookie Justin Jefferson seems plenty motivated to prove to the teams that passed over him that they made a mistake and he is, in fact, the best wide receiver from the 2020 NFL Draft. "Every single person that picked a receiver instead of me are going to pay." -@Vikings WR Justin Jefferson (@JJettas2) on The Zach Gelb Show on @CBSSportsRadio Full Interview: https://t.co/NhXP2roUVs#Raiders #Broncos #Cowboys #Eagles #Vikings p…

data-mm-id=”_b8i95vf57″>Major League Baseball is essentially at the midpoint of its highly irregular 2020 campaign. While an All-Star Game is obviously out of the question, MLB should honor the stars of the first 30 games of this season. There's absolutely no reason not to pick midseason All-Stars this year and celebrate some of the first-half accomplishments. Even without a game to play, All-Star selections are an important point of pride for many players. The league could easily put together a team of starters and reserves from each league, honoring the best players from the first half. And there are plenty of good reasons to.Does anyone doubt that Fernando Tatis Jr. is now an All-Star? This season has been his coming out party and he absolutely deserves recognition for it. The …
